Together We Deliver Innovative Design Supporting Canada's Clean Energy Initiative

November 23, 2023

Demand for Carbon (CO2) Capture technology is increasing to diversify the energy sector, playing a crucial role in developing clean energy and achieving Canada's net-zero targets.

British Columbia is committed to greenhouse gas emission reductions of 80% by 2050. The focus on British Columbia's clean fuel objectives and vision for a low-carbon future has intensified as refineries adopt new technologies and strategies.

Backed by Canadian Government grant funds from CleanBC Industry Fund, our Client is progressing the design for Carbon Capture at Canada’s first stand-alone Renewable Diesel Refinery. TWD has actively been supporting our Client in their journey towards sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives:

  • Feasibility study to advance combined carbon capture and sequestration scheme from one steam methane reformer.
  • Development of a Process Design Basis for a Carbon Capture System to extract CO2 from the Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) feed gas stream and CO2 liquefaction system and transloading to truck.
  • The process captures > 95% of CO2 from the gas stream and overall CO2 reduction of 168 Am3 per as liquefied CO2 for storage and regular transportation.
  • Major equipment includes CO2 Absorber Column / Rich Amine Regenerator with a steam fed Reboiler / Lean Amine Booster and Circulation Pumps / Plate Frame Exchangers / Pressure Vessels (Rich Amine Flash Drum and CO2 Product Separator) / Cooling Medium Air Fin Coolers, Expansion Drums, and Circulation Pumps / CO2 Liquefaction, Storage, and Shipping / Mole Sieve unit / Propane Chilling / Storage Cylinders with Loading Pumps

By investing in and implementing Carbon Capture technologies, Canada can significantly reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere, creating a more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy sector.
